The highest foreign investment figures in Latin America and the Caribbean since 1999 were accomplished in 2007 with almost 106, 000 million dollars in direct investments in the area. In 1999 the number totalled 89,000 million dollars according to figures published by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean – CEPAL by its Spanish acronym. Comparing with the global figures for Direct Economic Investment the area grew by 46 % between 2006 and 2007. This represents the highest increase in comparison with all developing regions in the world. Most of these investments were the result of policies of privatizing state owned companies in the energy, transport and mining sectors.

WHAT'S NEW...
POTOSI - BOLIVIA: An imperial village splendid and ostentatious is blessed by a majestic mountain of which infinite tons of mineral are extracted. Parties and banquets filled the fine old houses, people beat their breasts in silent churches; only the miners where condemned to the labyrinths of dark tunnels. Stories, myths and legends, made the city of Potosi and from it came all the silver that opened the doors of modern times for the world.
