ATTRACTIONS
Puerto Iguazu is a place that will surprise you. Surrounded by the dense Misiones tropical rain forest, this is a region of great rivers, sweltering tropical weather, red soil and the virgin forest, full of giant trees. Topographically, it is located in a plateau sub-region with intensely red soil, which comes from the decomposition of iron-rich rocks. However, the edges of the cliffs are covered with humus, which encourages the growth of the exuberant Misiones vegetation.
To get to this charming city and, perhaps, to the most entrancing scenery in South America, a good option is to travel by air, since Iguazu International Airport is only 17 km from the city center. It is located in the northeast of Argentina, in the province of Misiones. The confluence of the Parana and Iguazu rivers mark the borders with Brazil and Paraguay. The port is linked to them by the Tancredo Neves International Bridge. In this area you will find the Iguazu International Tourism Zone, which includes three cities: Puerto Iguazu, in Argentina, Foz do Iguaçu, in Brazil and Ciudad del Este, in Paraguay.
Iguazu, as a destination, should be considered as a whole, since the three cities offer complement each other with their different resources, making this Zone one complete tourist complex.
Puerto Iguazu is a typical frontier region, with people moving through it in the directions demanded by the rates of exchange of the moment. Its great tourism infrastructure has made it the fourth largest city in the Province in terms of population.
The tourist visiting Puerto Iguazu will see that the city is built on a natural balcony that overlooks Brazil across the Lower Iguazu River and Paraguay across the Upper Parana. This privileged view can be had especially from the Argentine Landmark lookout point, the rivers Iguazu and Parana meet.
