OBSERVING THE FALLS
The Falls can be admired, essentially, along two circuits:
The Lower Circuit: starting from the foot of the falls, it is 1,600 meters in length. Once it arrives at the foot of the falls, the spray and water vapor produced by the force of the fall wet the visitor. This experience is unique and the adventure is worthwhile. The tourist will also be transported to San Martin Island, which gives its visit another attraction.
The Upper Circuit: This walk is 1,200 m long, and is a more stress-free one. The panoramic views from the walkways and the look-out points make it a memorable experience. Part of the itinerary leaves from Cataratas station and goes along the walkway that crosses the upper river. This takes the visitor to the edge of the balcony over the Devil's Throat, the largest waterfall.
From the visitors' center, the pathways can be taken on foot or else boarding a picturesque natural-gas-powered train.
ACTIVITIES
Below this extraordinary display of marvels on the Upper Circuit, exciting boat trips can be made on launches or rubber rafts. Photo safaris, dorado fishing, or walks along the pathways to admire the fauna in the subtropical rainforest are other possibilities.
A special treat is to visit the most spectacular fall of all:
The Devil's Throat.
Its numerous individual falls form a semicircle 200 m wide and 90 in height, where the noise of the falling water and the vapor produced by it provide a misterious atmosphere that is impossible to describe in words. Leaving from Puerto Canoas, The Devil's Throat can be enjoyed in its full majesty from less than 50 m away.
Baptism in the Falls:
Within Iguazu National Park it is possible to take a boat trip and undergo the Falls Baptism. This is known as The Great Adventure, and the experience starts with an 8 km trip through the rainforest in open 4WD vehicles. This gives an opportunity to admire the flora and, perhaps, the fauna of the area. Then, embarking on semi-rigid rubber rafts, 6 km of the Lower Iguazu are covered, passing through its rapids and arriving at the foot of the falls to receive the "baptism". The trip lasts about 90 minutes, and can be taken any day.
At night, the visitor can enjoy shows of folk music and dancing or, if preferred, choose one of the many high-quality international casinos.
