SURROUNDINGS
San Salvador de Jujuy is the starting point of many different circuits in the Province. There are also half day and full day tours, to choose by areas, that will take you back to the city at the end of the day.
ALTOS DE LA VIÑA
If travelling by car, north of the Plaza General Belgrano, upon reaching the rotunda of the Fascio and Otero Av, turn right and cross the river to continue for another 3 and a half km. A straight uphill road will take you the Hotel Altos de la Viña.
The hotel has a pastry shop café, restaurant and will either organise conventions or family and business meetings.
It has an impressive panoramic view of the Valley of Jujuy as well as of the city itself, with its historical centre up front, to the right the start of the Humahuaca Gorge and beyond, the Cerro Azul Mountain top at 5,200 m.a.s.l.
In front of the hotel, half a block from a street that will take you to the Medical College, stands the Cultural Centre and the "Jorge Pasquini López Museum".
THE PROVINCIAL PARK "POTRERO DE YALA"
In the "Provincial Park Potrero de Yala", 28 km from San Salvador de Jujuy, you will find the beautiful lakes of Yala - Lagunas de Yala. Their crystal clear surfaces emerge from the year round surrounding greenery with its exuberant beauty and a river of many pools. It is a popular weekend retreat for families that come here to camp out and delight in the lakes and the landscape.
On the road to Reyes, you will find another six smaller lakes, of which the main one measures about 500 m by 300 m., where trouts and fresh water atherines are bred.
Travellers get there through Ruta Nacional Nº 9, and a take off on Ruta Provincial Nº 4. The first part is paved, but not the second; you will find a part that is only a dirt road. It can be visited the whole year except during the southern hemisphere summer when the rains will not let you get past.
Great for the observation of flora and wild life. You can take a programmed circuit walk guided by a Park guard. Sport fishing, photo safaris and biking are not to be forgotten.
THE MARSH DIKES, THE ALDERS AND THE WOODS
Make a 90º turn towards the south and you will discover other natural and cultural attractions such as the La Ciénaga, Los Alisos and Maderas, especially for those visitors that enjoy fishing and water sports.
The Ciénaga is an artificial lake, which apart from nautical sports such as punting, water skiing and yachting offers a swimming pool, sport areas, horseback riding, folklore shows and all the necessary to make grilled meat asado style in the camping site of the Municipality of El Carmen.
From the dike of Las Maderas the lake and its surroundings can be seen in all its beauty. The circuit La Almona - Los Alisos is a highly recommended short tour with splendid views. If you want to see all of the dikes area you have to pass through the communities of El Carmen and San Antonio.

The place counts with a big Olympic size swimming pool.
SAN ANTONIO
Close by you will get to the archaeological remnants of San Antonio.
LOS PERICOS
In the area with the name Los Pericos, the traveller has the option to practise rural tourism, as he will mainly be in an agricultural area, located in the Department of El Carmen. The local activities are all related to farming, the breeding of beef cattle, the cultivation of grains, vineyards and, especially, the growing of tobacco.
In this town you will find the offices of the Chamber of Tobacco, "Cámara del Tabaco" and the Cooperative of Tobacco Growers "Cooperativa de Tabacaleros", a coop for the collection, classification, processing and sales of tobacco, vegetables and grains. It exports it production of Virginia type tobacco to the four corners of the world, as its quality is recognised worldwide. It also produces and exports dried vegetables and stores grains and other cereals.
PALPALA
Another interesting location to visit in this tour is Palpalá, situated only 14 km from the capital San Salvador de Jujuy. Here you will find the first steel works ever installed in Argentina, in which the first tapping of cast iron took place in the year 1945. It also has 10,000 hectares of planted eucalyptus forest as raw material for the charcoal that was necessary in the process. The complex also included, before closing, two iron ore mines, 9 de Octubre and Puesto Viejo, and it also mined for limestone.
YALA
En Yala, the hills go towards the west, following the valley of the Yala River, on the south-eastern side it receives the rain cloud discharges that come from there. The exuberant vegetation and the crystal clean waters of the river, with it many quiet pools, attract every weekend, hundred of visitors that come to camp out and enjoy.
TERMAS DE REYES
At 19 km from the city you will find the Termas de Reyes, where there is a monumental hotel and where you can enjoy the thermal waters surrounded by profusely wooded mountain scenery. The hotel has a swimming pool, which receives water directly from the hot springs.
