SAN MARTIN
About 44 kms east of the City of Mendoza, along National Route N° 7, you will crossaa succession of modern bodegas, farms, estates, fields and industries until we reach the active town of San Martin.
It has important agricultural and industrial activity based on vineyards, olives and fruit trees. The main street is the Boulogne Sur Mer Av, a scenic boulevard where you will find most of the stores and coffee and pastry shops in town.
The Las Bovedas Historical Museum
It is a replica of the house built by General Don Jose de San Martin with the purpose to end his days as a modest farmer. It has two ample white domes that resemble an inverted ship's keel; both made of wood, mud and reeds, and joined with cow leather.
General San Martin's original house was built in the eastern part of town, a few metres away from the replica now stands. It almost disappeared in the big earthquake.
Later, in 1905, one of the owners, Don Ricardo Palencia, built the replica 300 m west of the original site, with the vaulted ceilings that give the place its name.
It has a symmetrical structure, surrounded by four wide galleries that exhibit objects and farming machines of the XIX century and early XX century. It has more than 13 exhibition rooms dedicated to coins, archaeological displays, and objects of everyday life in the XIX century, folkloric material, and more. It is on Pirovano Av. and Godoy Cruz St.
The Chapel of Good Order
It is sited in a village about 2 kms from San Martin town, along the Buen Orden Lane. Both the square and the chapel, built in 1883, preserve a nice rural feeling. It is a simple-looking construction made of wood, and possessing three naves.
The Chapel of our High Saviour
It is in Cerreceto, about 8 kms away, along the Costa Canal Monte Caseros Lane. It is one of the most remarkable rural chapels in the country since its construction dates back to 1852. It is built in a Florentine Renaissance style with an open nave, a closed chapel crowned by a pronged dome and a lookout tower.
SANTA ROSA
It is about 82 kms from the Capital City of Mendoza, always along National Route N° 7. It is an ideal place to start an excursion to the Ñacuñan Reserve, an area where visitors can find peaceful landscapes and watch typical mountain fauna and flora.
During the first week of January, the Fiesta de la Cueca (a folk dance) and the Damon Plum Festival is celebrated together with the election of the Queen. Creole cooking stoves are built, and offer the local dishes and exquisite wine.
The Bernardino Razquin Museum
In a roomy hall, the museum exhibits archaeological remains, such as a Huarpe burial and pottery, Guanacache culture arrowheads, and an Ischigualasto rock collection. It also exhibits the cassocks used by priests at the end of the XIXth century, Santa Rosa de Lima chandeliers, fossilized coral, whale ribs, as well as photographs of astronomical phenomena. The whole collection use to belong to Bernardo Razquin.
