NATURE IN ARGENTINANATURE IN JUJUY
|
FAUNA IN JUJUYThe great variety of species is in accordance with the diversity of environments, determined by the altitude floors and the vegetation strati. We can find some species in the upper or lower zones because of their migratory movements.Yunga Region Mammals The collared and lipped peccaries, the tapir, the red and brown mountain goats, the agouti, and the tapetí, a native rabbit, are representative of the herbivores. We can also find the taruca, or Northern guemul, an endangered native deer which lives in the upper grasslands. There are abundant predators here, both large (the jaguar and the puma) and medium (the big spotted cat, the tiger cat and the mountain fox). The squirrels and the brown capuchin monkey will be among those who have exclusively tree habits. Birds The birds are the most numerous group with 350 species registered in the Park. Some of them are natives of the Yungas and will not be found in any other natural environment of Argentina. |
