MUSEUMS

Finca (Ranch) del General Güemes en La Cruz
Dated from the early 18th century, it was the property of the stepfather of General Martín Miguel de Güemes, Don José Francisco de Tineo, who donated it to Napoleón Güemes in 1843. Towards 1879 it belonged to Adela Güemes, who sold it eight years later. Some traditions, sustain that Güemes installed there his General Quarters during the Independence War, but the truth is that it never belonged to him, although it bears his name.

The house has two floors, with balconies and large wooden galleries. Its thick adobe walls covered with stucco support the weight of the roof and supply the necessary isolation to endure the heat variations in the area. The location flood its architecture with the highly prized surrounding scenery. Now it hosts the "Museo de la Vida Rural Salteña", or " the Salta Country Life Museum". It is 24 kms southeast of Salta.

Casa - Museo Presidente José E. Uriburu (Colonial Museum)
Also called "Museo de Usos y Costumbres de los Siglos XVIII y XIX" or Museum of the 18th and 19th Centuries Uses and Traditions", it was built by order of General Félix Arias Rengel, to be the home of one of his daughters. Over the years, the house has had many important proprietors in successon.

In 1802, Don Juan Antonio Alvarez de Arenales, Counsellor and Marshall of Perú and also the Overseer Governor of Salta lived there. Around the middle of the 19th century, the family Uriburu purchased it and it turned to be the birthplace for two presidents of the country, Dr. José Evaristo Uriburu and Teniente General José Félix Uriburu.

It is one of the oldest houses of Salta, located in the historical centre of the city. The narrow and irregular form of the terrain forced the creation of a non-conventional distribution with respect to other colonial houses, since the rooms open only to two sides of the courtyard patios.

The first patio is entered across a big carriage portal. The Reception Halls are located on the first floor, and the second storey is kept for the main bedrooms. The facade presents a mixed treatment. The front patio's facade is simply arranged by two Tuscan columns that frame the gate, toppled by an ogee arch. A wooden structured balcony, with iron grates and covered by the projection of a tiled roof project itself away from the façade. Windows have straight wooden lintels.
It is located on N°417 Caseros Street.

San Francisco Museum of Sacred Art
The Church, the Convent, the Museum, the Library and the Archives, all form the Cultural Complex of San Francisco.
