BREALITOS LAKE
Known as the enchanted lake, the Laguna de Brealitos Lake is 12 kms away from Seclantás, in the village of Brealitos, a town that is growing capriciously along the homonymous river.
Travellers reaching this area will wonder before the abrupt mountains bordering the lagoon, 300 ms above the village, and will find an impacting scenery reflected on the water, and a paradise for fishing atherine as well.
The lake belongs to the Luracatao Ranch, which at the beginning of the Spanish colonization was a royal gift to some conqueror.
There are two ways of accessing it and the majesty of the rocks makes both of the entrances imposing.
After driving for about 10 kms through a sinuous road, travellers reach a mountain pass where a roadblock marks the entrance. There, they will experience some sensations bordering between awe and adrenaline flow, while following the winding and descending road with their eyes, for the ranch can be appreciated from up there resting on the other side of the pass.
The lake can also be accessed by walking a path that ascends through the craggy rocks. It can be reached in an hour while slowly climbing. When arriving at the edge, the heart rejoices with the landscape; on one side is the lake mounted on huge rocks, and on the other side the Brealitos village.
Travellers can fish at the lagoon with a permit, and it is not difficult to find a local narrating anecdotes about the area. They say that they have seen the mother of all fishes coming out of the water as a mermaid, when too many fishes are captured... that the lake is the eye of an ocean... that nobody can tell its depth.
Visitors can walk all around it and take good pictures during the afternoon, watch the chumucos (a duck variety) between the reeds, walk towards the river source that supplies the lake with water, climb some smaller hills to get a more formidable view, or perhaps prepare a delicious roast beef.
