It is located in the geographical centre of Argentina. At West and Southwest it borders with the Province of Mendoza, at Northwest with the Province of San Juan, at North with the Province of La Rioja, at Northeast with the Province of Cordoba, and at East and Southeast with the Province of La Pampa.

San Luis pictures a scene of sierras and hollows, streams and rivers of capricious courses, and hot thermal springs of uncertain origins. It is a crossroads from which all parts of Argentina can be reached.

Its capital, which stands alongside the Chorrillos River, keeps up to now its traditional physiognomy mainly expressed by the big old houses and colonial residences of large and sunbathed courtyards. With the time San Luis has managed to satisfy the different tastes through its excellent services, and its diverse natural and cultural attractions. It is a tempting place for travellers wishing to enjoy nature.

The South offers the chance to practice alternative tourism. There are a huge number of lakes in its scarcely populated plains. An interesting fauna and many birds from the region can be watched there, or something else by taking a photo safari.

Generally, San Luis offers important tourist zones in the central, northeastern and northwestern parts of its territory.
