Walking by the streets of Sucre is an authentic pleasure that allows discovering the architectural treasures of the city, a real Monument of America. The colonial and republican mansions, simple welcoming squares, churches that renew the faith and museums that allow deciphering the history, are some of the attractions that will seduce the traveler.

House of Freedom: considered a very important historical monument of the country, because here the events that summed up the independence of Bolivia took place.

It was built in 1621 and was part of the Jesuit convent. Here is where The Universidad Mayor, Real y Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca was founded in 1624, and many of the most important Bolivians who participated in the independence movement were formed .

The members of the Deliberating Assembly who proclaimed the Independence met in the main classroom of the university. It is sited in the Plaza 25 de Mayo.

Metropolitan cathedral: The construction of this beautiful church began in 1559 and was totally finished 250 years later. Its architecture shows Renaissance, Baroque and also "Mestizo Baroque" styles. Specially remarkable are the mayor altar and the dome crowned by the cross of Carabuco brought from a town close to the lake Titicaca.

Next to the mayor altar, you will value the choir of canons that highlights its plateresque style. The six oil paintings of Montufar that represent the martyrdom of the apostles are also of great importance.

Chapel of the Virgen de Guadalupe: This temple keeps the image of the most loved virgin of Sucre, painted by Fray Diego de Ocaña in 1601. The city shows its faith by covering it with jewels. The Virgin de Guadalupe has received the homage of the most outstanding Bolivian citizens. The chapel, built in 1617 by order of Fray Gerónimo Méndez de la Piedra, is next to the Cathedral.

Church of San Francisco: considered as a historical monument, because this church keeps the "bell of freedom", used to call the people when in May 25th, 1809, the first scream of freedom in Spanish America was heard.

Santa Barbara: A church built first in the Renaissance style in Bolivia and then decorated in neo-Gothic style Dates from the year 1887. It is located in the Plazuela Libertad in the Destacamento street.

Museum of La Recoleta: It keeps several colonial and republican paintings, sculptures, crafts in gold, a numismatic collection and archaeological remains.
