NATURE IN BRAZIL

SUPERAGI NATIONAL PARK

The Superagi National Park is classified as one of the five most important coastal ecosystems in the globe. Located in the State of Paran, it is a marine park formed by the islands of Superagi and Las Piezas.

It was created the 23rd of April of 1989 with a 21,400 hectare area, now in the process of being increased to 34,000 hectares.

It encompasses almost all of the island of Superagi except for the area meant to be for the community of fishermen. Sandy coastal beaches and other formations, thick Atlantic shrub, necks of land and mangroves go across the length and width of its territory.

A new species of orchid has been discovered in the midst of the vegetation of the necks of land, where a great number of this kind of flowers grow, it is the ape-lion of black face (leontopithecus caissara).

Between the birds, the purple face parrot or chau, an endemic species of the region, is worth considering. Once a year the park receives migratory guests like the macaric and the heron.

The park is part of the Environmental Protection Area of Guaraquecaba and, even though it is limited to the area of the states of Paran and Sao Paulo, it still does not have any lodging infrastructure nor transportation facilities for the visitors.

It is absolutely forbidden to pick fruits, seeds, roots or any other piece of plant; to hunt or capture animals, to introduce any foreign species, to drop litter, to make fires, etc. inside the reserve.

How to get there

The fastest access is though the sea coming from Paranagu or from Guaraquecaba. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises, it is recommendable to bargain the cost of the service with the owner of the boat before taking the ride. There are no established fees though they vary between $ 70.00 and $ 100.00 The journey takes about an hour coming from Guaraquecaba.
