Rio Clarillo is in the central pre-Cordillera area, some 45 km southeast of Santiago, in the Pirque municipality. Its terrain covers 13,185 hectares, with altitudes varying between 850 and 3,500 meters.
Its main attraction is the Rio Clarillo, a brook providing fresh water to the municipalities of Pirque and Puente Alto, and forming the main axis of the Reserve.
This Reserve is famous as the last outpost of the (hard-leafed) sclerophilous wood in the central area. This kind of forest is made mainly of species such as peumo, litre, lun and quillayes.

The birds living in the area are the eared dove, a bird which in the Metropolitan Region is in danger of extinction and whose only refuge is in this reserve. Another endangered species is the Chilean iguana, which looks like an "overfed" lizard.

The Reserve is equipped for picnicking, and has excursions guided by interpreters of the Environmental Information Center. The Park has no campsites, and camping is only possible here with a special permission from the Conaf.

The local weather has a 7 month dry period, with rainfall occurring in the winter months. January temperature is 24Celsius and July is 11Celsius.

Quebrada Jorquera Interpreted Pathway:
Length: 1.2 km.
Trekking time: 30 to 40 minutes.
Description: An educational pathway sited close to the Visitors' Center, consisting of 15 stops to describe the flora and fauna species and pay visits to the solama and quebrada environments.
Level of difficulty: Suitable for everyone.
Due to the fragile nature of the fauna and flora along the way, it is best that the excursion groups do not exceed 5 to 10 people.

Aliven Mahuida Interpreted Pathway:
Length: 1.7 km.
Trekking time: 1 hour 30 min.
Description: A tutorial pathway located in the Paso de la Virgen sector, consisting of 15 stops whose main feature is biological diversity in shrubland, canyons and river-type environments showing a great diversity of wildlife, both flora and fauna.
Level of difficulty: Suitable for all, with a maximum of 10 per group, except for senior citizens and the handicapped.
Other services: guided treks. These are sporadic activities that have a limited number of participants and have to be previously coordinated.

In addition to trekking, there are other activities such as:

• Bird Watching, including migration, flying behavior and habitats, when and where authorized.
• Flora and fauna observation: easy-going walks that allow us to come together with the animals and plants native to this area.
