This was declared a Historical Monument in 1968 and it has now applied for the status of Natural Monument.
This Natural Monument coomoprises three caverns and a rocky formation called "Silla del Diablo" ("Devil's Seat"). The largest cavern is at 150 meters altitude, and its dimensions are 30 m high by 50 m wide and 200 m deep.
The scientific interest of this place is owed to the discovery in 1896 of skin, bones and other remains from an extinct animal, the MYLODON (Mylodon darwini), a huge herbivore that most probably became extinct at the end of the Pleistocene period. Science has determined that the Mylodon survived until around 5,000 years ago, together with other animals: the Dwarf Horse, the Saber-Tooth Tiger and the Great Guanaco, also called Macrauchenia.

• Photography: The National Park and Cueva del Milodn are highly attractive places for photographers because of their singular scenic beauty.
