The Antisana volcano in Caari(native language) means lamb or dark mountain: It is an active volcano that has grown on a previous boiler and according to scientific calculations is approximately 800,000 years old. The flow of lava that can be seen in the surrounding area is not the product of an eruption but of some licks that have escaped through the cracks of the mountain.
In 1760 the flow of lava of Antisanilla was formed and thirteen years later the last flow of lava called Potrerillos or Papallacta emerged.
Its last volcanic detonations could have taken place between 1801 and 1802, but there are some who believe that what happened in fact was the fall of ashes.
Micacocha lagoon:It is the biggest lagoon in the reserve and is at the base of the volcano. Flows of lava -prints of the past volcanic activity- can be seen in the surrounds.
Lagoon of the Muerte Pungu:Close to the peak called El Predicador; ideal for fishing.
Lagoon of Santa Lucia:Also called Mauca Machay: it is an appropriate place for camping because of its beautiful landscapes; plus, it is a good place to relax fishing.

Lagoon of Secas:It is believed that its dark green waters are the product of volcanic activity.
El Tambo:It is an area of waterfalls and astounding deep passes in the cloudy forest. Hundreds of people go to the pools close to the waterfalls seeking the healing properties of these natural torrents.
Caves of Jumandi:From this place of cloudy sky, one can observe the landscape transition that, little by little, gets the typical characteristics of the tropical forest areas
Cordillera of Macaws:It is part of the important biological corridor that links Antisana, the Ecological Reserve of Cayambe-Coca and the Sumaco Napo Galeras National Park.
