FLORA AND FAUNA

The higher areas of the reserve of Antisana are formed by plants with hairy thick leaves that prepare them to stand the winds and the low temperatures. This flora consists of pads, chuquiraguas, frailejones, mosses, orchids, pumamaqui, polilepis forests and the tropical flora of the humid forest.

It is believed that the biggest population of Andean condors of Ecuador lives in this reserve. Other birds that are found here are ducks, curiquingues, quilicos, gligles, gulls of the mountain and hummingbirds.

The moor wolves, white tail deer, rabbits, chucuris and skunks are among the mammals that live in the reserve.
On the other hand, in the lower areas, where man has not been able to intervene due to the difficult access, cedar trees, cedrillo, walnut and arrayn can be seen. The typical flora of the tropical humid forest is very abundant in the Cordillera of Macaws.

The mammals that populate the area are the bears of glasses, pumas, armadillos and monkeys. Among the birds, parrots, toucans of height, cockerels of the rocks, pavas and gallaretas are counted.

The moors spattered with beautiful lagoons and the stones of dry lava in wave forms make of this place a tempting attraction for all those who arrive at Ecuador.
