POPULATION AND CLIMATE

Only 3 percent of the archipelago has residential use by a population of 12,000 people. The populated areas are Puerto Ayora (Santacruz), Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (San Cristbal), Puerto Villamil (Isabela) and Puerto Velasco (Floreana) and the Baltra Island, which are occupied by the Ecuadorian armed forces.

From January to June the weather is hot and humid. In March temperatures are higher than 30 centigrade and more. In these months it rains 70 mm3 per month. The time changes from July to December. Days become fresh with a fine rain. In September temperatures go down to 19 centigrade. On the other hand, the temperature average for the year is 18 centigrade.
