LOLOG LAKE
Lolog is a gorgeous fishing district. Located about 12 km northwest of the city of San Martin de los Andes, it holds the city's chief supply of pure drinking water. For this reason it was qualified as a Protected Nature Areas in 1994.
It is bordered by high hillsides (not more than 800 masl), blanketed in forests of colihue cane, as well as high trees, such as roble pellín, rauli and cypresses that dye the hillsides in copper and orange in fall. Around it animals such as red deer, wild boar, foxes, hares and wild ducks are frequently seen. Its grayish-green waters abound with salmon.
It is always hard to select a spot for a summer vacation.; the sport fisherman must solve a mistery that does not always satisfy the family group. However, Lolog, the "jewel of Neuquen " combines everything in a way that the whole family can enjoy a great vacation.
The regal landscape of this region, dotted with prime watercourses and lovely lakes provides many reasons to remain engraved in the memories of its visitors as an idyllic resting spot.
Fishing in Lake Lolog
This part of Patagonia is world-wide famous as one of the main natural areas for fishing enthusiasts. This activity is practiced here in three variants: spinning, fly trolling and fly casting.
Lake Lolog has gone back to the munificence of its "golden days". Now its greyish-green waters are again teeming with salmon. Trout are also plentiful in quality and size - you can find variants such as brown and rainbow, as well as perch, salmón encerrado and fontinalis.
These characteristics include the whole extension of the lake, particularly the mouth of the Quilquihue River, and its whole course; the area is ideal for novices and experts.
As well as setting up on the banks of the Quilquihue only a stone's throw away from Lolog Lake, the visitor will not only be able to fish along this river, but also, in the company of our guides, along everyone of the rivers in the area, such as the Aluminé, Caleufu, Chimehuin and finally, the Collón Cura.
Besides, the abundance of "vigilantes" prevents hassle, adding to the restfulness and ease of the activity for beginners.
Obviously, the virtues of the Quilquihue will leave the experienced fisherman delighted, since he will be capable to find a wide range of quality trout weighing an average of one kilo, and, if he's lucky, he may fish really, really, large specimens.
Both styles of fishing can be practiced from a boat. Even approaching the 26 km shoreline and casting towards land gives excellent results. Any random corner of this lake is liable to harbor a chief trophy.
