BEAGLE CHANNEL
Sailing the Beagle Channel can be the experience of a lifetime, particularly in autumn because this is the time when the southernmost city in the world and its surroundings offer a breathtaking view from the boat, wrapped in forests that haven't yet lost their leaves.
There are various circuits that let travellers watch the sea lion and bird colonies on the small islands or the crabs submarine world by means of an underwater camera.
There are also longer trips reaching the famous Lapataia Bay (ending point of National Route Nš 3) within Tierra del Fuego National Park, or to "Estancia Harberton".
You may travel aboard current catamarans or classic vessels which are already history in the area. Sailboats or even rubber dinghies are also available. In all the cases, the sailing takes you past the picturesque, archetypal and fascinating Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse near the wrecking place of the German boat "Monte Cervantes", sunken 1930.
Some of these outings include walks, for instance in the Bridges Archipelago, the Penguin Rookery on Martillo Island or in Redonda Island where you can visit the southernmost and exclusive Argentine post-office.
Being Ushuaia a seaport accessed by sailors from all over the world as their last destination, there is the possibility of sailing the southern waters aboard a rented sailing boat for a whole day or more.
Thus, you can get to the hallucinating Cape Horn or sail along the western Fueguian channels where you will see glaciers hanging as they reach the sea.
You can combine all of these possibilities with walks, horse-rides and 4 x 4 overlanding tours, departing from Ushuaia.
