HUSKIES VALLEY
WINTER SPORTS CENTER
"Valle de los Huskies" winter sports site is 20 km north of Ushuaia city on National Route Nš 3. It is bordered by snow-capped mountain peaks and lenga forests, and affords a great view of the Alvear Glacier, framed by spectacular scenery.
Summer activities
Some favorite summer activities are:
Trekking excursions to: Laguna Esmeralda, at the very foot of Alvear Glacier, or visits to the vantage point that affords a panoramic view of the whole valley.
A guided tour to the Alaskan and Siberian husky breeding kennels.
Visitors may also take "cuatriciclo" (four-wheel motorcycle) adventure tours, including exhilarating cross-country driving through obstacles such as rivers, peat bogs and forests, while they inhale the natural beauty of the area.
Guided horseback treks are a main attraction during summer time.
Winter activities
Here the main attraction is dog-sledding, with all the excitement of driving your own team.
The snow-cat individual guest-driven snow-cycles, afford easy access to all the attractions the area has to offer. There are three options: A short 15-minute excursion, a medium-length two-hour one, and a long one which can last almost 7 hours and includes a lunch and a snack.
Also available are the flex-mobiles (an all-terrain caterpillar track specially suited for sightseeing trips). These are heated transport vehicles with wraparound scenic windows, carrying up to ten passengers.
Another winter activity is downhill skiing. The valley possesses ten-kilometer ski runs including a 1 km stretch for nighttime skiing.
Hired gear (boots, skis and ski poles) is available and skilled skiing instructors offer individual or group classes.
Trekking fans will enjoy walking across the wood in snowshoes.
Breeding kennels
These are placed in a sheltered spot of the woods, and each dog has an ample run. As well as breeding an assortment of purebred puppies, these kennels train and sell sled dogs ready for teams.
The valley offers as well several horse--drawn sleighs, fully equipped with their teams and harness.
Restaurant
Attractively housed in a structure built with the rarest local timber; it seats 150 guests.
