The community reserves are areas put apart to preserve the wild flora and fauna for the benefit of the local residents.
It is intended that the commercialization of these resources will become as source or resources for the localpopulation, through supervised plans managed by themselves.
This project can be established on agricultural, pastures or forest lands. The Yanesha Community Reserve is the only one in Peru currently, covering a surface of 34,744,70 has (0,03% of the national territory).

THE YANESHA COMMUNITY RESERVE
Yanesha was made a community reserve on April 28, 1988 through Law (R.S.) N 0193-88-AG-DGFF. It is part of the department of Pasco, province of Oxapampa, district of Palcazu and covers a surface of 34 744,70 hectares.
This reserve was been created to keep the wild fauna for the benefit of the native communities living in the area. The area of the reserve is part of the system of protection for the Valley of Palcaz and the National Park of Yanachaga - Chemillen and the protected forest of San Matas - San Carlos, where the native communities of Amuesha natives can profit from theplentiful naatural resources of the area.
The most important species of mammals are the reed deer (Mazzama americana), the sajino (Tayassu tajacu), the huangana (Tayassu pecari), the quisquiricho (Dasypus novem cinctus), the aoje (Daysprocta sp.) and the monkeys like the Ateles sp. and the Lagothrix sp. Of birds, we find the pucacunga (Penelope jacquacu). Of fishes, the boquichico (Prochilodus sp.), the sabalo (Brycon melanopoterum), the palometa (Mylossama aureum), the doncella (Pseudo platystama sp.) and the Lisa (Leporinus sp.).
One of the goals of this Reserve is to safeguard the basins of the River Palcazu and preserve the wild flora and fauna that surround its basin in order to claim the old territories of the yaneshas. This community reserve is part of the national effort to see the yanesha tribe develope and progress.
